Types of Disability Grants
Mobility Aid Grant
The Mobility Aids Grant Scheme provides grants for works designed to address mobility problems in the home, such as the purchase and installation of grab-rails, a level access shower, access ramps or a stair-lift.
Housing Adaptaion Grant
The scheme is primarily for older people, but people with a disability can also apply for it.
Housing Aid Grant for Older People
Depending on your situation, the housing aid for older persons scheme may be more suitable for you.
Mobility Aid
VAT Refund
You can apply for a refund of vat on the aids and appliances that you need. This refund scheme also applies to the cost of the installation work.
Permissions
You must satisfy the local authority that you will occupy the property as your normal place of residence when the works have been done. If you are a tenant, you must also get written approval from your landlord.
Quotation
We can provide an itemised quotation, indicating the cost of the work required. It is recommended that the proposed works should include the installation of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, if they are not already present and operating in your home.

Housing Adaptation Grant
The Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability is available for works which are reasonably necessary to make a house more suitable a person with a disability who has an enduring physical, sensory, mental health or intellectual impairment.

Means Testing
The grant is available to households whose gross annual household income does not exceed €60,000. Your total household income is assessed to find out if you qualify for the grant and the amount payable.
Housing Aid for Older People
Age Qualification
The Housing Aid for Older People Scheme is used to improve the condition of an older person’s home. In general, it is aimed at people 66 years of age and older, who are living in poor housing conditions.
Local Authority Approvals
Local authorities vary as regards what type of work they will grant aid under the Housing Aid for Older People Scheme. You should check with your own local authority to see which types of work its scheme will cover.
Applications
Your application will be prioritised based on medical need. Highest priority will be given to people for whom alterations or adaptations would facilitate their discharge from hospital or the continuance of care in their own home.
